<p>Due to heavy snow in Sheffield, and the resulting transport issues for both guests and suppliers, we&#8217;ve had to make the decision to cancel the Master Chefs dinner due to take place on Saturday 23 March at Firth Court.</p>

<p>We&#8217;d like to apologise to any guests who this has affected.</p>

<p>Fairtrade Fortnight 2013 is all about going further for Fairtrade, whether it’s trying a new Fairtrade product or pledging your support and signing Fairtrade’s online petition.</p>

<p>All the hot drinks served in eatwithUS cafés on campus and in the residences are Fairtrade, but this year, we’re giving you the chance to try more Fairtrade products than ever before, making it even easier for you to support Fairtrade.</p>

<p><strong>Fairtrade Taster Sessions</strong></p>

<p>We’re running two “go further for Fairtrade” sessions where you’ll have the chance to learn Barista skills and create the perfect Fairtrade hot drinks, sample Fairtrade wine and enjoy a range of Fairtrade nibbles.</p>

As well as supporting Sheffield’s economy, this enables us to bring our customers quality, seasonal products at great value prices. It’s not always possible to use local suppliers, but we aim to always provide sustainable, ethically produced, Fairtrade products in all our outlets.</p>

<p>Here are details of just some of the local suppliers we use:</p>

<p>Innovative local business, Our Cow Molly, was set up in 2007 by a family of dairy farmers who’d been producing milk on their Sheffield farm for three generations. We stock their range of delicious ice-creams from our very own Our Cow Molly ice-cream cart – perfect for a summer lunchtime treat! The ice-cream cart will be on the move around campus throughout the summer. Our Cow Molly ice-cream is £1.50 and is available in a range of flavours.</p>

<p>The award winning Yorkshire Crisp Company believe that local is best. They only use Sheffield spuds – transported to the factory by tractor – and Yorkshire-based packaging suppliers to reduce their impact on the environment. If that wasn’t enough, you can have even more of a taste of Sheffield by sampling their exclusive Henderson’s Relish flavour! Yorkshire Crisps are stocked in all our outlets for 95p.</p>

<p>You may not have heard of Yorkshire company, Total Foods, but if you’ve tasted one of their cookies, you’ll know why we sell over 30,000 of them every year! Available in moreish Toffee &amp; Pecan and Triple Chocolate flavours in City View Café, The Common Room, IC Café and many more locations for just £1.20.</p>

<p>When you book your catering with us, you’ll no longer need to dispose of the plastic platters which we use to transport your food.</p>

<p>With every delivery of food from us, you’ll be given a green bag to put your used platters into. All we ask is that you put them into the bag when you’ve finished with them – there’s no need to wash them – and the energy and environment team will come and collect them for you.</p>

<p>If you’re in a building with a porter’s lodge, you can also drop them off there. Simple!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>refreshwithUS are celebrating a great result after winning a Good Farm Animal Welfare Award. The award was presented on 28 November 2011 by Compassion in World Farming for refreshwithUS’ efforts to help improve the welfare of farm animals.</p>

<p>The award recognises commitment to improving the lives of animals by sourcing only higher welfare eggs, chicken or dairy produce for their catering.</p>

<p>Winning the award has shown that the refreshwithUS team really are good eggs – with over 3,000 eggs being used by them each month.</p>

<p>Tracy Carr, Executive Chef for refreshwithUS at The University of Sheffield, said: “We take our commitment to ethical and environmental issues very seriously and are always looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. We always try to use local suppliers and ethically sourced produce and by only using free range eggs we’re supporting animal welfare. Small changes really do make a big difference in a large organisation like the University and it’s really important that we do our bit to make the world a better place. Plus, we think free range eggs taste better!”</p>

<p>Over 265 million hens, chickens, pigs and dairy cows are set to benefit each year as a result of the Compassion in World Farming winners’ policies.</p>
